Epi-LASIK
This technique is created by Professor Pallikaris and our team at the University of Crete and used worldwide. It uses a new method of surface photoablation. The procedure takes a few minutes for each eye. As in PRK, the laser ablates the surface and changes the curvature of the cornea. The difference is that the surface membrane (epithelium) is not removed but is separated from the rest of the cornea with a special instrument and is repositioned at the end of surgery. Afterwards a protective contact lens is placed on the cornea for three to four days until healing is complete. The operation is performed over topical anesthesia with drops and is painless.
