The European scientific prize “Ioannis Charamis” was granted to the Prof. Ioannis Pallikaris
One more distinction honouring Greece. The European scientific prize “Ioannis Charamis” (which has been enacted in honour of the great Greek Ophthalmologist) was granted to the Professor of Ophthalmology of the University of Crete, Mr Ioannis Pallikaris, on Saturday, June 8th, in 2013 in Copenhagen in a brilliant ceremony in the framework of the Paneuropean Ophthalmologic Congress in which the last scientific discoveries in Ophthalmology were announced.
The prize “Ioannis Charamis” which is granted every four years after a voting of the 45 countries of Europe, in which the Ophthalmologist whose original surgical work has become an international scientific achievement is voted.
Leading European doctors, who through their scientific implementations have helped million people restore their vision or ameliorate it have been honoured up to now.
Prof. Ioannis Pallikaris has long before awarded a prize. During his scientific and University career he has been honoured with the most important prizes of the international scientific community. In a juncture during which Health along with the Universities in our country are “shrinking”, while at the same time, Greece is vibrated in the interior and is doubted abroad, the Greek scientists are directing the evolutions globally.
The European Ophthalmologic Company, in the face of Professor Ioannis Pallikaris honoured Greece as well as the Scientist himself who elevated Greece and constituted it a guide for universal Ophthalmology.
This historic juncture referring to the most important events described in the hand book of Ophthalmology, the official internet book of the American Academy and specifically to the chapter “History of Ophthalmology” dates back to 650BC with Aristotle and ends in1989 with the grand discovery of the LASIK technique by Professor Ioannis Pallikaris.
Consequently it is not accidental that Europe broad look was born in Greece.
